Dr. Martorano received his medical degree from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons before moving to Los Angeles to complete his training at UCLA’s prestigious Neuropsychiatric Institute.
A recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, including the Charles E. Richmond Award, Dr. Martorano is a recognized performer, public speaker, radio personality, and businessman and is still sought after for business consulting. He is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, and the American Medical Association. Dr. Martorano holds a DATA 2000 waiver and is able to prescribe buprenorphine (subutex, suboxone) for opiate detoxification and maintenance.
Dr. Martorano is a psychiatrist trained in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness. He is an expert in psychopharmacology (the use of medication to treat psychiatric illness). What sets him apart from many other psychiatrists is his extensive training and experience in the combination of targeted psychotherapies with or without medication, and he has completed additional training in ISTDP, CBT, DBT, IPT, in addition to Intra-Analytic Couples and Sex Therapy.
From neuropsychiatry to popular trends in mental health, Dr. Martorano has appeared in numerous interviews on television, radio, and print. He was co-host of a nightly radio show and has briefly served as medical director of Malibu's largest treatment facility, an experience which gave him insight into the challenges associated with residential treatment.
Dr. David Martorano grew up in Scarsdale, New York. He is a third generation doctor with a BA in orchestral arrangement from Union College. He is entirely self-taught in both business and computers, and was running Brazil’s largest database marketing firm before commencing his study of medicine at Columbia University.
Dr. Martorano moved to Los Angeles to continue his training in psychiatry at UCLA’s prestigious Neuropsychiatric Institute. In 2004, he started Malibu Psychiatric Services, bringing his unique combination of psychiatry and practical psychotherapies to the west side of Los Angeles.
He lives in Malibu, with his wife, Melissa.
