THE DIFFERENCE- DRY VS. SOBER
Stopping amphetamines is only part of the challenge. You need to find meaningful activities to substitute for using amphetamines.
Sobriety is a lifestyle. At first it involves substantial planning to ensure that you do not relapse.
AA or NA can help, but it's not enough for a vast majority of people. Other recovery groups like SMART and Rational Recovery offer cognitive-based options in recovery.
If you want to stop using it's important to accept that this will be a life altering decision. Psychotherapy with a qualified counselor or physcian will help you prepare for the challenges ahead.
Drug use also affects family members, it's important that the program you use, what ever you choose, has qualified professionals with specialized training in treating addiction and couples therapy.
MORE REASONS TO QUIT
There is no drug that will replace the amphetamine's role in your life. While treating underlying conditions may help, the most important step in getting better is to start doing other things. As you begin to relearn what's important in life, (NOT DRUGS) than you will start to make healthier choices and begin your recovery.
Kicking Amphetamines
You've probably seen the scary pictures of people losing their teeth, covered in scabs, and their brain on drugs. Of all the drugs I deal with methamphetamine (Crystal, Ice, or Tina) & crack are the most insidious and devasting. Lives turn upside down. Methamphetamine increases the release of very high levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine, which stimulates brain cells, enhancing mood and body movement. That's why it feels good...
THE BAD PART IS
Chronic methamphetamine abuse significantly changes how the brain functions by damaging neuron cell endings. This leads to reduced motor speed and impaired learning. Chronic methamphetamine abusers have emotional and cognitive problems. Other effects of methamphetamine abuse may include irritability, anxiety, insomnia, confusion, tremors, convulsions, cardiovascular collapse, and death. Long-term effects may include paranoia, aggression, extreme anorexia, memory loss, visual and auditory hallucinations, delusions, and severe dental problems.
DUE TO THE AMAZING NUMBER OF POTENITAL PROBLEMS METHAMPHETAMINE CAN CAUSE, YOU MUST SEE A MEDICAL DOCTOR WHO CAN FULLY EVALUATE YOU AND HAS EXPERIENCE TREATING METHAMPHETAMINE ADDICTION.

THE SOONER YOU STOP,
the less severe the permanent effects will be. Look around this site and you'll see that I don't use any scare tactics to tell you how bad meth is. You've seen the effects it has. Meth is that bad.
YOU CAN LIVE A LIFE FREE OF DRUGS AND ALCOHOL
It's not that you haven't been trying hard enough, you need to try different things. The right psychiatrist can help you. Combining medication for your symptoms with a personalized and progressive series of psychotherapeutic techniques to help you strenghten your skills is the best way to get bettter.
GREAT TREATMENT DOESN'T HAVE TO BREAK THE BANK
The single thing that disturbs me the most are doctors who take advantage of people in need. The "Recovery" Industry is filled with bad people who will take as much money as you are willing to give them. I recommend avoiding any clinician or treatment center that asks for money in advance. They are counting on your desperation!
